The Dancing Game

"The Dancing Game"
By:  Adrielle R. Bollin

Taking steps forward, back and to the side
Dancing, escaping from the label's backside
I've tried on the hats, looked both short and quite tall
But who can I be if I'm no one at all

I picked up the crowns and set them back down
Built up new castles and sewn up new gowns
Yet still I am no one since I choose no profession
I'm topsey and turvey like a nervous confession

Delighting the game as I skirt to and fro
Dodging and diving in the winds and the glow
But soon I am tired with no place to stay
I want to lie down but then couldn't get away

So here in the shadow is where I shall hide
Until I can settle, until I decide
Who will I be, which label accept I
My future it hinges on the wisdom I fly

Escaping Definition

"Escaping Definition"
By: Adrielle R. Bollin

Defined as loyal, wise and true
Defined as innocent and un-skewed
Defined as fragile and easily broken
Which felt like unrelatable, unspoken
Defined as structured and obedient
As delightful like a chef's key ingredient
Defined as naive with no knowledge of real pain
Like I was unfeeling, inexperienced and  plain
My heart was torn between the knowns and unknowns
The beauty of safety and the adventure of danger zones
I had to see for myself so I could say I'd been there
I needed to break away, to fly on my own fare
So I broke the rules and dirtied my mouth
Proved to myself I could go north or south
Split myself into pieces so as not to be defined
Choosing everything and nothing like wind in the mind
Until one day I found there no longer was a road
I had learned so much but felt lost and so alone
Aimless and weary, bitter and perplexed
I went a new way, risking whatever came next
Defying definition yet wanting to be known
I explored the deserts and mountains of stone
Spoke with the scavengers, the fliers and sages
Slipping from name to name always turning pages

New

"New"
By: Adrielle R. Bollin

Gonna go a new way
Cause today's a new day
And I feel a new sway
Reaching down to my legs

And I think I might skip
And double triple my trip
Because it just feels that good
To hear the way that I should

You know you bring me around
With just the slightest of sound
The way you love me's profound
Your heart for me it breaks ground

And you saved my soul
Though it was looking like coal
You took me under your wing
Now together we swing

Surely only you know
How to the ends I will go
Your sacrifice it did show
How much about me you know

I want to thank you in kind
For giving me this new mind
And this bright sunny sky
That money just couldn't buy

Love's Endurance

Love's Endurance
By:  Adrielle R. Bollin

Even the best of friends get bored to death together
Can sit in companionable silence on a couch of ruddy leather
Or fight like angry birds defending a family nest
Then come back to the table and lay it all to rest

The sand in the hour glass doesn't stand a chance
When commitment is shared by two people in love's dance
The determination to hold on till the very end
Makes one willing to dig in, hold tight, to mend and bend

No stronger force has ever been matched
Than the power of love when it is true and unlatched
To grow old together is more than an expression
It's a pleasure that's worked for, a constant progression

Even in old age work must be done
To cultivate the prize that is continually won
It's like a garden that you tend from year to year
Pulling out the weeds and making paths clear

Throughout all of history love has been sought
It holds the keys to life's greatest lessons taught
You cannot buy it or sell it in it's truest of forms
It is earned and given from hearts that are warmed

Choosing Love

Choosing Love
By:  Adrielle R. Bollin

What a wonderful thing this subject of ages
The journey embarked on by nobles and sages
From presidents and royals to players and fools
None can resist dipping into love's mysterious pools
It harbors safe havens and takes crazy risks
Can harden a heart when things go amiss
It has the capacity to hurt while it heals
It can soften a heart made of fortified steel
It makes lions of cowards and cowards of lions
It changes the world by touching one ion
Love is an action, a choice that you make
To risk nothing at all or to chance a mistake
The ebb and flow of relationship tides
Mean constantly choosing to follow left or go right
When soaring it's easy to fly along together
But sometimes the road is longer than ever
It's then you must choose to walk or persist
To weather the storm, the boredom and mist
To drop what you've worked for like a good bye kiss
Or to reap the reward to work for love's bliss
To be continued...
